Build your own weapons for D&D

One of the problems with various versions of Dungeons & Dragons and games that are similar to it is that only a small selection of weapons are provided for play. More esoteric and less common weapons are often either ignored, or included in supplements. Over at Necropraxis, Brendan has put together an article that allows for using a mechanics-based approach to creating new weapons. While this works great for weapons that already exist or have in the historical past, it’s also a great resource for helping to create those strange alien weapons that various species or races may use in the worlds we like to play in.
