Unique Encounters for Travelers from the Signe of the Frothing Mug

“You all meet in the tavern” is a standard trope for starting adventure games, but where the story goes from there can take a number of delicious twists and turns. Often, true adventure starts elsewhere, so characters have to travel, but what do they see on their travels? At Josh Graboff’s The Signe of the Frothing Mug, there’s a small table that will help to fill this gap by presenting 20 random items that parties may encounter as they encounter other travelers upon the road. Little tables like this add flavor to many campaigns that often suffer from what I term “the Fast Travel Effect” that you see in many computer RPGS where you simply jump from known location to known location without enjoying little diversions and elements of worldbuilding that can happen between points A and B.
