Dungeons & Dragons Basic releasing July 3

According to a tweet Mike Mearls of Wizards of the Coast made on his Twitter account yesterday (June 23), the free digital Basic version of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition will release “…on July 3rd with character creation, updated rest of the year to add DM material, monsters, magic items”.

The big question is whether it will be hosted via Wizards’ web servers, or whether they’ll be hosting at DNDClassics [AL] as they do with all of their other content older content, or doing both. Hosting on their own servers allows them to see how many people are downloading it. Hosting at the DNDClassics [AL] is the easiest way to keep those who’ve downloaded it up to date, but it also requires that everyone who wants access needs to sign up there for an account. I’m inclined to think that it’ll be available from both to maximize exposure and availability to all.
